Regional forums of U3A Network Victoria

U3A Network Victoria was formed in 1985 because of a desire of U3As to exchange views with groups with similar interests, aspirations and problems and has grown to 98 member U3As with some 28,000 members.

The structure is of a Council of nominated representatives from Member U3As and an elected Executive Committee. Further sub-committees are instituted in the areas of finance, publicity and promotion, newsletters etc.

This structure has worked well over the years but with the increase of membership to almost 100 U3As the ability for individual members to adequately voice concerns and gain deeper insights into benefits from the group has become more difficult. As a result informal groups have formed for mutual support and the advantages are recognised but now have been formalised. The groupings so far have been found to be advantageous but still remain fluid

Recent Regional Meetings

The Grampians- Central West Regional Meeting held at Ballarat on 16 April was well-attended by the U3As within the region. Twenty-four members from Ararat, Avoca, Ballarat, Creswick, Maryborough, Hamilton, Stawell and Network Victoria, attended the meeting. Apologies were received from Hepburn and Horsham.

On the 19th of April, 17 people from 7 U3As in the Loddon-Mallee Region plus the U3A Network President, Elsie Mutton, gathered in Bendigo for our bi-annual conference.
The Loddon-Mallee is a huge region with as a diverse mix of towns and environments as it is possible to imagine. From sunny Mildura on the flat dry plains that run north forever in the west to sleepy Heathcote a small timber town surrounded by forests in the east. From the former busy port of Echuca in the north to the one time agricultural centre of Kyneton, rapidly becoming a favoured commuter town of Melbourne in the south. Photo: Lyn Goodall
